Cosmetic Teeth Whitening and KOR Teeth Whitening Case Studies

Want to get teeth whitening in Charlotte? Teeth whitening has become a very popular way to lighten and brighten your smile. It became readily available to dentists in the early to mid-nineties. Although it was inconvenient, messy, uncomfortable and costly, people still wanted to have this procedure done. Recently the tooth whitening industry has exploded with all kinds of new products and techniques. Just head over to the local pharmacy and you can find shelf upon shelf stocked with gels, creams, pastes, strips, and other products promising a whiter smile. On eBay there are people who make a living selling teeth whitening products. So, if you’re interested in teeth whitening in Charlotte, what information do you need to make an informed decision?

Over-the-Counter Teeth Whitening vs. Professional Teeth Whitening

First, for the most part, it is safe. Most any product you can get from a pharmacy is ok to use. We strongly discourage people from buying products from unknown companies on the internet or eBay though. There is very little monitoring of these products and many of the companies making them are fly by night. Beware of individuals selling name brand gels and creams too. Especially if it is something you can only get from a dentist. These products typically have a short shelf life and need to be handled and transported carefully or they are rendered useless. Most important is the fact that some chemicals can cause irreversible damage to your teeth and gums

The best way to get your teeth whitened is at your dentist’s office. The dentist can make sure that you are a good candidate and determine which type of whitening would be the most appropriate for you.

Professional Teeth Whitening Options

In our office we have many different options for whitening your teeth as well as maintaining the result. Teeth whitening can be like getting a tan or coloring your hair. It may not be a onetime thing that lasts forever. You may get spectacular results with professional or over the counter teeth whitening products, but it is important to consider how you will keep that color over long periods of time. This is especially important if you are having any dental work done like dental crowns, porcelain veneers, composite resin veneers. Crowns and veneers will not react the same to teeth whitening chemicals as your natural teeth will, and of course you want everything to match well. At the Ballantyne Center for Dentistry we can help you develop a strategy specifically designed for you that will fit into your budget and lifestyle, allowing you to keep your new gleaming smile as white and bright tomorrow and in the years to come, as it is today.

Teeth Whitening Trays - Charlotte

We have completed over 7000 whitening procedures in our office and get predictable results. Because of the sheer numbers of people whose teeth we have whitened, an international teeth whitening company has asked us to help them develop better and better methods and products. This partnership has provided us with a unique advantage when it comes to teeth whitening.

These pictures and video demonstrate a very popular method we use in order to get your teeth whiter and brighter using a time tested product but with a new method, that only a very few dentists know about. The procedure takes about 30 minutes, DOES NOT burn or cause damage and sensitivity to the gums and teeth, and is incredibly affordable and maintainable over long periods of time. See the difference yourself! You will notice that the shade tab being held up to the teeth matches the color before the teeth were whitened. It is being held up again in the second photograph taken immediately after the procedure was completed.  We call this our "cosmetic" teeth whitening.

In addition to cosmetic teeth whitening, we also offer KöR teeth whitening. This is an AMAZING teeth whitening system that can provide whiter teeth for almost any person no matter what the color of their teeth are to start!

Unlike other types of in office whitening, this does not require any lamps, lasers, or lights. It is virtually painless and the results are stunning. It is our top of the line whitening yet it is very affordable. This is as close as you can get to a permanent teeth whitening result and with very little effort. See the examples below for actual results...

The Most Frequently Asked Questions about Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening in Charlotte

Do DIY teeth whitening methods work?

“Do it yourself” teeth whitening methods cannot come close to producing the dramatic and eye-catching results of professional teeth whitening. Additionally, it is risky to attempt whitening on your own without the supervision of an experienced dental team — you could have issues with tooth sensitivity or pain, or possibly cause irreversible damage.

What is the teeth whitening procedure like?

Conventional chairside whitening involves applying a bleaching agent directly to the teeth and letting it penetrate the enamel. We might use a special light to active the bleaching agent. After the bleaching gel has sat on the teeth for a certain period of time, it is removed and the entire process is repeated.

In addition to conventional chairside whitening, the team at Ballantyne Center for Dentistry also offers Kör whitening system. Kör involves wearing customized trays, filled with a proprietary bleaching product, every night for two weeks. This is followed up by a 90-minute chairside whitening treatment.

How much does teeth whitening cost?

The cost of teeth whitening depends on factors such as the whitening system used. For a detailed pricing quote, book a consultation with our team.

Is teeth whitening covered by dental insurance?

Teeth whitening treatment is usually not eligible for insurance reimbursement because it is considered elective.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

When performed or supervised by a dental professional, teeth whitening treatment should not hurt. We control the power of the bleaching gel and how it is applied to prevent tooth and gum sensitivity and other problems.

Are there side effects to teeth whitening?

People that whiten with ill-fitting over-the-counter trays may experience tooth sensitivity and irritation of the gums and other soft tissues of the mouth. However, these side effects can be avoided by trusting your whitening treatment to a professional.

What are the most common causes of tooth staining?

Teeth most often stain or discolor from the following:

  • tobacco use
  • consumption of dark-colored beverages and foods (e.g., coffee, tea, wine, soda)
  • exposure to certain antibiotics like tetracycline
  • effects of aging
  • grinding
  • trauma
  • wear and tear

How can I best maintain my whitening results?

We recommend you avoid stain-causing foods and beverages or use a straw when drinking beverages like coffee, wine or tea. Rinse your mouth out immediately after drinking or eating stain-causing foods. You should also brush at least twice a day, floss daily and see our team regularly for checkups and cleanings, which can stave off discoloration.

We can also provide you with customized whitening trays to use every six months to a year to maintain your bright white smile.

Is teeth whitening more effective on stains of certain colors?

Yes, we find that yellowish teeth are most easy to whiten, whereas brownish or grayish teeth are not as easily whitened. We can examine your teeth and give you an idea of the kind of results you can expect.

Does teeth whitening lighten existing dental restorations?

No, teeth whitening will not lighten veneers, crowns, fillings, bridges or bonding. Some patients opt to replace their dental restorations in order to match whitened teeth, or they have whitening performed to match their new restoration.
