How does the process of getting Porcelain Veneers work?
After a consultation, giving you a full understanding of the process, why each stage needs to occur and deciding that veneers are right for you, we can add the veneers. We will then create a wax model of your smile to show you will your teeth will look like. We usually need to scrape off a tiny amount of the existing tooth surface to ensure the veneer fits properly. This provides the right aesthetics whilst giving the tooth its function back. The process usually takes around three months and you will normally be given temporary veneers. The temporary veneers will give you an insight into how the end result will look and feel and gives us the chance to make adjustments if needed before the permanent veneers are fitted. Once this period is over, you can expect to have bite function fully restored. The process cannot be reversed once the permanent veneers are in place.
We will need to use a gel to roughen up the tooth surface and make the bonding process more efficient. We will use a light wand to send heat through the veneer to the bonding agent and remove moisture to speed up bonding before eliminating any excess cement and polishing the veneer.
